Zubia Abbasi

Zubia Abbasi was born in Karachi, Pakistan and immigrated to the United States at the age of two. She is an MFA candidate in Creative Writing at Western New England University, and a proud South Asian, Muslim American who loves to tell stories. She has been writing actively since her early teens and hopes to inspire connections through her work. In her free time, she loves drawing, painting, reading, dancing and the slightly awkward practice of people watching. She lives in New England with her family. Her debut collection explores the lives of various Muslim characters as they maneuver their way through migration in its many forms, consequences and nuances. Human life is complex, and no two cases of immigration are the same. These characters are united in their struggle to maintain their faith and culture in the face of discrimination in a foreign land. Unexpected and often cruel obstacles stand in the way of the lives of these American Muslims, some who’re recent immigrants while others are a result of migration generations before. Yet, life goes on.
